Milepost at southern corner of yard to White Hart Inn

Milepost. Early C19. Cast iron, by Wightman founder. Triangular on plan; sides 305mm wide, height 850mm; base plinth,
raked top, no back panel; to angled faces two plaques with reverse curve corners, left reading
"Wincanton/6.25/Somerton/10.25/miles", the right "Ilchester/10/Shepton Mallett (sic)/8/miles'; all of the town names
except Shepton Mallet set on curve, founders' name cast on leading edge. This section of road maintained by the
Langport, Somerton and Castle Cary Trust from 1778.
