House. 1868, by Paley and Austin, as gatehouse to Sedgwick House (q.v.). Tooled
sandstone with sandstone ashlar dressings; graduated greenslate roof with stone
ridge and two chimneys each with three octagonal shafts; Cast-iron gutters with decorative
brackets. L-shaped plan with octagonal North (gateway) end. Single storey
plus attics. East side: two 3-light windows with stone mullions and surrounds
with arched heads to lights and glazing bars; 2 gabled dormers with decorative
barge boards over. Entrance in octagonal end has diagonally boarded door in
enclosed timber lean-to porch with slate roof flanked by decorative cast-iron
downpipes. Garden front has triangular stone bay window; small single-light
window with hood mould and labels, and dormer window similar to those on East.
