House and barn. Date stone reads: 'W & AL/1667' (Langhorn) with later
additions. Stone rubble, the house roughcast, with slate roofs. House of 2
storeys, with L-plan barn range attached to north end. East elevation of 4
bays, the 3rd and 4th bays are higher, probably later. Ground floor has windows
with chamfered reveals to 1st 2 bays, that to 1st bay with small-paned glazing,
that to 2nd bay of 3 lights with flat-faced mullions and small-paned glazing.
4th bay has 20 panel sashed window and small gabled wing with sashed windows
with glazing bars. 1st floor has single-chamfered-mullioned windows probably
originally of 4 lights, one mullion remains, small paned glazing; 2nd bay has
sashed window with glazing bars; 3rd bay has small-paned window with chamfered
reveals and blocked light to south; 4th bay as 2nd bay. Entrance to 3rd bay has
chamfered reveals and sunk segmental head with enriched dated lintel; glazed
door. 3 gable-end stacks. West elevation has outshut under catslide roof to
1st bay; 3rd bay has hipped stair wing, the window with small-paned fixed
glazing. Entrance to 2nd bay has entrance as above but with sunk triangular
head; plank door. To north a projecting barn range with loading door to south
gable end. This connects with range running to east. South elevation has
segmental barn entrance with smaller segmental-headed entrances to either end;
lower 2-bay part to east has wide entrance, and entrance and window to 2nd bay.
1st floor has entrance up steps and loading door. Interior of house not
inspected but has 1st floor fireplace with architrave and enriched lintel reading:
'13 W & AL 72'; added initials: 'IL/HH'. (RCHM Inventory: Westmorland).
