Former porters' house and sewing room, now office. Mid C19 as
part of Bakewell Union Workhouse. Coursed limestone with
sandstone dressings, graduated slate roof.
EXTERIOR: 2-storey house with single-storey sewing room wing
in L-shaped plan. Chamfered plinth; punched quoins; mullioned
and transomed windows having iron casements with patterned
glazing bars.
Roadside front: house has 2-light, 3-light and single-light
windows to ground floor and a 3-light window above set in a
gabled half-dormer; shaped kneelers and moulded gable copings;
ashlar ridge stack with offset plinth and cornice.
Left return of house (facing drive to Newholme Hospital (qv))
has 4-light windows to each floor.
The house is entered from the rear.
Wing to right of house has blind gable.
Left return with 1-light, 3-light and 2-light windows; gable
above middle window. Right return with similar windows then a
catslide roof projection over 3 2/2 sashes; ashlar stack with
octagonal flue.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
