TF 92 NE STIBBARD

5/87 The Grove Barn.

G.V. II

Farm barn. Dated 1723. Red brick, red pantiles. 4-stead threshing barn,
east front divided by 2 ranks of honeycomb ventilation hole windows arranged
in 7 bays and 2 storeys. Off-centre boarded cart-doors. First floor platband
and brick dentil eaves cornice. South gable arranged as 3 storeys, ground
floor plinth, 2 blocked openings, platband, 2 honeycomb brick openings with
boarded shutters, eaves level platband with 2 honeycombed openings, central
arched stone plaque with IL 1723, blocked opening above and apex owl hole.
purlin irons. Kneelers, crow-stepped gables. North and west fronts broadly
repeat these forms. 4 bay roof, tie-beams supported on internal brick piers,
some with wall posts and struts. 3 ranks of butt purlins per bay, double
collars, no ridge beam. Single storey brick and pantiled barns to north.
Barns attached to west are not of special interest.
