Gundimore
SZ 1892 3/42

II GV

2.
Early C19. Of unusual design, said to have been built in the shape of a Turkish
tent, complete with gilt arabic inscriptions to remind the original owner of his
travels in the east. Stuccoed with slate roof. Consisted of centre and 2 wings,
the north eastern one now Scott's Cottage. 2 storeys. Centre has 5 windows with
a large curved centre bay with conical roof. At the south west corner of this
bay is a round, 2 storey turret, shaped like a squat house with the upper storey
almost completely glazed. French casements with Venetian shutters. Single storey
wing to south west. See also Sandhills for possible literary associations.

The Anchorage and its boundary wall form a group with Scott's Cottage, its boundary
wall and Gundimore (the modern house between is set beck in trees and does not
visually obtrude).
