Villa, now a hotel. Mid C19. Red Wembdon rubblestone with
stone dressings, shallow-pitched slate roof with projecting
eaves and central brick ridge stack.
Double-depth plan with a lower forward wing to the left and
later extensions. Italianate style.
2 storeys with attic; one-window range to the front. A central
belvedere tower has a hipped roof with weather vane over an
arcaded second floor. 3 open arches to each side have
bracketed cill band, stair window to first floor has a
semicircular arch to 6/6-pane sash, C20 entrance porch below.
An ashlar single-storey gabled block to the right has gauged
stone arch to a blind Venetian arch, possibly a former
entrance; right return of this has a similar arch. The right
return of forward left wing, facing the courtyard, has a
segmental arch to 2-light casement window to first floor and a
3-light canted bay below. The right return of the main block
is gabled with a semicircular arch to a 3/3-pane sash window
to the attic, a gauged flat arch to an 8/8-pane sash to first
floor and a large rectangular bay with C20 windows below. The
rear is C20.
INTERIOR: The open-well, open-string staircase has chamfered
stick balusters and swept and moulded handrail. Room to rear
of hall retains cornice, 2 rooms above have moulded cornices,
skirting boards and 4-panel doors. Attic rooms have panelled
doors concealing beds in the eaves and some exposed roof
trusses. The forward wing to left has semi-elliptical arches
and moulded glazing bars to frames to casement windows of bay.
