FARTHINGHOE STEANE

Stable block at Steane
Park

The following shall be added at the end of the description:

Interior: 14-bay roof of the late C16, probably of two builds, consisting of 6
arch-braced collar trusses and 7 tie-beam trusses with struts and collars. Tall
wall posts rest on former 1st floor beams (now removed except for the wall ends
which act as corbels). Butt purlins, probably slip tenoned, with convex wind
braces and pegged rafters. Five bays over western end of range all with
arch-braced collars. Cottage incorporated within existing structure at western
end of range in mid to late C19. 1st floor level lower to afford higher head-
room above.

Stables. C17. Squared coursed limestone and ironstone, slate roof. 2
storeys and attic. 10 bays. Carriage way left bay north wall with plain stone
arch. Irregularly spaced stone mullioned windows with square heads. Bay
window left of centre with 6 stone mullioned lights. South wall has 2
doorways with stone flat arched heads and C19 windows with wood lintels and
iron casements. Gabled projecting wing to left, one-bay, 2 storeys and attic.
Doorway with flat arched head on right side. C19 stone mullioned windows and
similar C17 three and 4-light windows on left (west side).
