Description

BRIDGWATER

ST2937SE CORNHILL
736-1/10/39 (South side)
16/12/74 Nos.6 AND 7

GV II

House, now offices. Mid C18. Painted brick with painted stone
coping, cornice, platband, cills and dressings to the central
upper windows; pantile roof and brick stack to right gable
end. Double-depth plan with 2 gabled rear wings. 3 storeys;
symmetrical 5-window range. The coped parapet and cornice are
well above the second-floor windows; these are 3/6-pane sashes
under flat gauged brick arches, except that to centre which is
a Venetian window in a plain architrave moulded to the outer
edges with Gothic glazing bars to the central sash. Windows to
first floor, under a platband, are similarly spaced 6/6-pane
sashes, that to centre is tripartite in a similar architrave
to the above. C20 shop-front. The rear left wing has flat
gauged brick arches to C20 windows; that to right has concrete
lintels to first-floor left and flat gauged brick arches to
small paired 2/2-pane sashes to the second floor. C20
ground-floor rear extension. INTERIOR: The upper floor levels
of the 2 ranges to left are higher than the rest of the
building, suggesting that it was formerly a separate building.
