Semi-detached dwelling. c1899 possibly incorporating part of
mid C19 house, extensively altered 1932 by P.B.Hunter. Render
over brick, roof concealed behind parapet. End of terrace. 2
storeys over basement, 2:1 bays; right bay projects slightly
with one bay loggia porch, sash windows without glazing bars,
solid panel parapet, moulded cornice, moulded surrounds to
window openings, rusticated ground floor with arch-head
windows framed by pilasters carrying entablature, arch-head
opening right forming porch, lit on left return with unglazed
arch opening, one window to right of round-arched entrance,
fanlight, panelled half-glazed door with ornamental grill.
Rendered piers with cast-iron railings fronting road and
returned to porch of Courtenay Tower (qv). Long 3-bay return
with boundary wall abutting; south front with Modernist
detailing. Wall: C18-C19, coursed pebbles with plinth of
brick, renewed upper courses of brick, cement coping. About
one metre high and 45m in length. A very accomplished 1930s
pastiche of a late Victorian building. With Courtenay Towers
(qv) and Courtenayside (qv) adjoining, Little Courtenay may be
part of the rebuilding of a mid C19 villa, shown on OS map of
1875. Included for group value.
