Small country house. Originally mid C17, H-plan building with
two cross-wings to east and west, soft red brick. Facade to
north rebuilt in 1716 and two storey addition to rear of west
wing with hipped slate roof. Alterations made to existing
fabric in mid C19 and original entry in north removed to east
and new additions added to south in gault brick with low-pitched
slated roofs. Two large red brick stacks to original building.
Two storeys, and two storeys with attcis. Facade to north
noteworthy with carved date 1716 in central blind parapet
window. Built of gauged bricks with fine joints and originally
symmetrical. Two wings slightly project, each has a shaped
parapet with stone copings and ball finials incomplete, deep
moulded cornice, and high plinth with roll moulding. Pilasters
at quoins with moulded brick capitals. East wing has two first
floor casement windows with leaded lights and aprons with
plaster scroll brackets to moulded brick bands. Ground floor
windows similar without aprons and sealed in later brick. Wing
to west slightly altered by replacement windows and inserted
door. Central range of three bays has three blind parapet
windows with moulded brick sills and segmental arch to central
window. Three tall first floor windows with moulded brick sills
and replacement C19 hung sash windows with glazing bars. Part
of moulded brick jamb to original door visible beside C18 canted
'Batty Langley' bay window. Three-light window to right hand in
flat brick arch. Interior has two staircases, early and mid
C19. Other details largely C19. Very large cooking hearth
sealed, in early C18 extension.
