House in 2 ownerships. Front range (Fyning House) of K.1730 with late C16
or early C17 L range (Old Fyning House) with C18 and early C19 alterations
to rear and attached late C18 and early C19 bothy Fyning House is of red
brick with tiled roof and end panelled brick chimneystacks. 2 storage and
attics 7 windows. 4 dormers. 12 pane sashes with moulded architraves.
Central 3 windows set within slightly projecting pediment. Rentilled eaves
cornice, parapet, rusticated quoins and brick stringcourse. Central porch
with Doric columns and triglyph frieze. Rear elevation has 2 gables early
C20 1 storey addition of 2 bays to north and adjoining Old Bell Cottage
not of special interest. Interior has decorated plaster ceiling over the
staircase. Old Fyning House has a south front of English band brick work,
the left hand side C16, the right hand side early C19 with tiled roof, 1
storey and attics 6 windows, including 3 Venetian type windows in round-
headed surrounds, 2 16-pane dormers and half-glazed door. The north front
has a ground floor of colourwashed stone marble with brick dressings with
tile hung 1st floor with 4 gables. Tiled roof with 3 brick chimneystacks.
4 metal-framed casements, cambered to ground floor and door case with 6
panelled door and flat wooden hood with brackets. C18 brick extension
to east altered C1830 has hipped tiled roof; modillion eaves cornice and
1 cambered sash to 1st floor, fixed sash to ground floor and cambered doorcase
with plank door. C1820 Hand in Hand Insurance mark. Linked to the main
house by a brick ash is the Bothy on late C18 and early C19 unheated sleeping
plank for seasonal workers of 1 storey red brick with grey headers, hipped
tiled roof, 2 cambered casements and doorcases with pediment on brackets
and round-headed doorcase. Interior of Old Fyning house is timber framed
with angled Queen Stout roof. Late C16 or early C17 stone 4-centred arched
fireplace with chamfered piers, wooden lintel and C20 brick fire surround.
3 plank cupboard door and spine beam with 1½ inch chamfer and lambs tongue
stops. One at least of the upright posts has an C18 profile to the jowl.
Eastern extension has a C1820-30 reeded wooden fireplace with cast iron
ducks-nest grate. Roof of staggered purlins set diagonally with chamfers,
tie beams and ridgepiece. This wing probably originally had an agricultural
or storage use and was later adapted to accommodation later in the C19 a
game larder and apple store wer e built against it.

House. C17 building, refaced in the C18. The long back wing is C17 in origin but
much altered. The main or west front is C18. Red brick. Rusticated stuccoed
quoins. Stringcourse, dentilled cornice, parapet and central pediment. Tiled
roof. Glazing bars intact. Porch with Doric columns and pediment. Two storeys
and attic. Seven windows. Four dormers. Decorated plaster ceiling over the
staircase.
