14/10/83 Appuldurcombe House

Icehouse. Late C18. Earth mound, with stone rubble revetment
wall, covering brick chamber and stone vaulted entrance
passage. Segmental- headed entrance portal on NW gives access
to passage which leads to chamber 3.2 metres in diameter.
Together with the Freemantle Lodge Gateway (qv), and the
remains of the obelisk on Appuldurcombe Down (qv) one of the
three garden buildings surviving from the former park of
Appuldurcombe (qv), laid out by Capability Brown c1781.
