GV II

Range of farm outbuildings. C17 with late C18 additions and C20 alterations. Rubble
lakeland stone with projecting through stones, irregular quoining and massive boulder
foundations. Westmorland slate roof covering, laid to diminishing course. 'L' shaped
range, the earlier part cruck-framed, and aligned north-south, the added part extending
eastwards from the north end of the earlier part. CRUCK-FRAMED PART; 5 bays,
single storeyed, with near-central full height double doorway with boarded doors to
west side wall. Single doorway on opposite side of doorway bay. INTERIOR; 4 cruck
trusses support a double purlin roof structure, with square-set ridge purlin. From the
south end, trusses 2 and 4 have dovetailed face-halved collars, trusses 3 and 4 have
tie-beams (that to truss 3 a bolted C20 addition). Trusses 2 and 4 have spurs to side walls.
All trusses have purlin bearers. C18 PART; 6 bays, single storey, with a double doorway
with sliding gear to north side. INTERIOR; queen strut trusses support a double purlin
roof A good example of C17 cruck construction within a modest stone shell, enlarged,
but not diminished in interest by an C18 addition.
