GV II

House. c1797. Built as residence for engineer of
Leeds-Liverpool Canal (Samuel Fletcher); altered. Coursed
squared sandstone rubble, stone slate roof. Rectangular
double-depth, double-fronted plan.
2 storeys and 3 windows, with a symmetrical south front facing
the canal; a central doorway with plain surround, now covered
by a shallow C20 gabled porch; a 1-light window above the
doorway, and two 3-light windows on each floor, all with
square-cut flush mullions, raised sills and plain lintels ,
and all these windows now with altered glazing. Small moulded
stone gutter brackets; gable chimneys. The rear has a central
doorway, a tall round-headed stair-window above this with
restored radiating glazing bars, a narrow window to the left
at ground floor and 2 vertical-rectangular windows on each
floor, all with plain surrounds that to the right at ground
floor with shutter lugs.
