Description

GRANGE-OVER-SANDS

SD4078 HAMPSFELL ROAD
705-1/3/14 Farm buildings to south-east of High
02/05/75 Farmhouse

II

Two barns with attached farm buildings. Probably mid C18 with
C19 alterations and extensions. Built on a site sloping in 2
directions, with the earlier barn aligned roughly north-south,
with its main entrance facing east and with its shippon at the
southern (downhill) end. The later barn is at right-angles on
the west side, with its upper level entered through the
threshing door of the earlier barn and with its own cart
entrances facing north and south. The slope of the land allows
an underhoused shippon under the western end of the building.
Adjoining to the north is a smaller 2-storey workshop
building, and to the south are further shippons with
corrugated sheet roofs.
The entrance doors of the main barn have plain reveals and
timber lintels and are protected by a slated canopy. To the
left there is a shippon door and a window, both with plain
reveals and hit-and-miss vents. To the right the front wall is
covered by a later lean-to extension.
INTERIOR: the main barn roof has pine bolted king-post
trusses.
High farmhouse is not included.
