Windmill now private house. Early C19 with C20 alterations. Painted
quarry-faced sandstone, under domed wooden cap with brick chimney stack.
3-storey tapering circular tower has C20 casement windows, most in original
plain reveals. No internal features of interest. Owner intends to restore
sails, which would have been removed before 1860 when it was referred to as
being worked alternatively by water and steam. See Cumberland News, 6 February
1981; Transactions Cumberland & Westmorland Antiquarian & Archaeological
Society, new series, lxxii, pp.133-4. Circular wrap-around extension at base is
not of interest.
