Description

SE 01NE RIPPONDEN (former U.D.) STAINLAND ROAD (south
SE 059198 side), Barkisland

6/174 No 76
_

GV II

House, probably mid C17. Rendered stonework, stone slate roof, 2 storeys. 2-
cell with gable entry. Chamfered mullioned windows of 3 lights with same over
(lacking mullions); 4 lights and 2 lights (fire-window) to housebody, with 3-
light window over (lacking mullions). Rear preserves one chamfered mullioned
window of 2 lights (blocked), rest are flat faced mullioned of 2 lights and 3
lights. Gable stack and one other.

Interior preserves scarf-jointed spine beam, evidence of former bressumer and 2
posts on stylobates of uncertain purpose. Gable entry has doorway with timber
door surround with segmental lintel. Large tie beam, though truss not visible.
It is possible that this is an earlier timber framed building enclosed in stone
at some time in C17.
