GV II

Hall. Late C18, with early C19 alteration. Coursed squared
stone, altered and extended in orange-red brick in random
bond; pantile roof with stone coped gables, shaped kneelers
and rebuilt end stacks of brick. 2-storey, 2-window front.
Central sunk-panel double doors beneath tripartite keyed
lintel, between 12-pane sash windows with timber lintels. On
first floor, 2 unequal 9-pane sash windows with keyblock
lintels. Rear: 4 round-headed sash windows with radial glazing
and stone sills, beneath round arches of voussoirs. Right
return: one-and-half-storey pent extension towards rear,
probably contains staircase. Building said to have been part
of Malton New School in C19, later the National School. In
poor condition at time of list review (1990).
