Description

PADSTOW MIDDLE STREET (west side), Padstow
SW 9075-9175
8/106 No. 10 (Walton House) and No. 12

GV II

House, divided into 2 houses. Circa early C18, divided into 2 houses probably in the
C19. Rendered, painted and partly pebble-dashed stone rubble front wall. Left hand
gable end possibly timber frame, partly slate hung. Cement washed and bitumen coated
slate roof with gable ends and moulded eaves cornice.
Plan: Probably originally a 2-room and central passage plan house, possibly with a
service wing to rear right. The rear wing was further extended in the C18 and C19
and a wing was added to rear left, probably in the late C19. The house has been
divided to form 2 houses, possibly in the C19 with No. 12 to left occupying the
original left hand room and Walton House to right occupying the passage and right
hand room with service wing to rear.
Exterior: 2 storey. Regular, originally symmetrical 5-window front. The windows
although replaced in the late C19 to Walton House on right and in the C20 to No. 12
on left, are in their original openings, replacing probably originally 12-pane sashes
with heavy glazing bars. C19 door and doorframe to Walton House, in centre of
elevation with C20 door to No. 12 on left, in originally a window opening. Moulded
eaves cornice.
Interior: Walton House on right has several C18 2-panel doors and an early C18 8-
panel door with raised and fielded panels. Interior of No. 12 not inspected.
