House, now office. c1700 with mid C18 and early C19 additions.
Brick with plaster dressings; hipped tile roof with brick
stacks.
Double-depth plan with side and rear wings. Early Georgian
style.
2 storeys with attic; symmetrical 4-window range. Plaster
plinth and top cornice.
Entrance has architrave and bracketed canopy; 4-fielded-panel
door with 2 glazed panels. 2 basement lights; windows with
brick flat arches and cross-casements; 2 gabled dormers with
2-light casements.
Left return has small leaded light, lateral stack and wing
with gabled 1st floor with cross-casement window over carriage
way. Right return has 2 brick platt bands and 2 stair windows
with flanking windows, all with cross casements, some with
leaded glazing; 2 hipped dormers with 2-light casements and
inserted entrance to left end; lateral stack and rainwater
head with downspout.
2-storey C18 wing has platt band over ground floor, 3 windows
with 12-pane sashes to each floor, coped gable end and end
stack; C19 wing has segmental-headed window to each floor, one
small-paned casement and 6-pane horned sash. Rear has 2
gables; varied fenestration, including tripartite sash to
return of wing; rear of side wing has hipped roof over sashed
window.
INTERIOR: room to left has ovolo-moulded beam with run-out
stops; room to left has early C18 panelling with dado rail,
bolection-moulded fireplace with overmantel with egg-and-dart
moulding to panel and scrolled relief frieze and drops,
similar room above; dogleg stair has turned balusters and
square newels with finials and pendants, bolection-moulded
dado; 1st-floor room to left has angle fireplace with Delft
tiles.
A good well-preserved example of an early C18 town house.
