Large house. 1662 date previously recorded on part of building. Present front
said to be C18 for Dr Burn. 1900 date, with initials H. & R.G. (for Goodwin) in
rear wing gable. Coursed, squared rubble with rusticated quoins. Hipped,
graduated slate roofs. Symmetrical: Mainly 2 storeys; 5 bays (1:1:1:1:1), with
adjoining pavilions. Central pedimented bay has steps up to panelled door in
pedimented Tuscan surround incorporating narrow, flanking windows; Venetian
window above. Full height canted bay window, with Tuscan columns at angles, set
back on either side. Band between floors and sill band to 1st floor windows.
Single-storey wing set back on each return has Venetian window in
semicircular-headed recess. All windows sashes, some with glazing bars, in
stone surrounds. Stepped wall adjoining each wing curves forward to terminate
in small pavilion with ogee-headed window. Main block has eaves cornice,
central lead-roofed cupola, and corniced stone end chimneys. Interior probably
remodelled when additions made in 1900: Good woodwork including panelling to
walls and ceilings.
