7/18 Battlers Green
- Farm House

GV II

House, with shop. Late C16 or early C17, cased and extended in brick in
C18. c.1860 new house built. Original house: timber frame, brick
cased, rendered. Tiled roof. 4 bay hall, part floored, 1 storey and
attic. Ground floor shop. C18 brick wing extends to right, ending in a
hipped roof. 1-storey C18 addition to rear. Stack at original gable end
to rear. C19 house joined to left. Plum brick with red brick dressings.
Machine tiled roof. 2 storeys with attic. Central entrance in a porch.
Casements with segmental heads. Stacks with oversailing caps. Interior:
chamfered bearer to first floor end chamber. Clasped purlin roof. Curved
wind braces (RCHM Typescript: Herts Archaeology, vol.6, 1978, p.78).
