Farmhouse with attached cottage. Built in 1828 as an inn but
never use as such; extended in 1879. Thin coursed rubble with
quoins, the front painted white; slate roof. Double-depth plan
on east-west axis facing north, with 1-bay extension at east
end and 1-bay cottage at west end.
2 storeys, 1:3:1 windows. The 3-window portion is symmetrical,
with a square-headed doorway in the centre, a datestone over
this, two 16-pane hornless sashes at 1st floor and 3 above;
all these openings have plain surrounds painted black. The
extension to the left has a square 2-light casement at 1st
floor, with glazing bars. The cottage to the right has a
doorway and altered window at ground floor and a sash above,
like the others.
INTERIOR not inspected but believed to have 3 vaulted cellars.
HISTORICAL NOTE: built as inn in anticipation of improvement
of old road from Grisdale to Fell End, which was not built.
Forms group with adjoining barn to west.
