St John's Villa and Saxthorpe with
attached wall and railings

Pair of semi-detached villas with attached wall and railings.
c1840s with later additions and alterations. Stucco over brick
with mansard slate roof and end and party-wall stuccoed stacks
with cornices; stuccoed wall with stone copings and iron
railings.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys on basement and with attics, 6 first-floor
windows. Stucco detailing includes horizontal rustication to
ground floor with voussoirs over windows. Moulded first-floor
band surmounted by Doric pilasters to ends and between windows
with a pair to party wall. Crowning entablature and low coped
parapet. Ground and first floors have 2/2 horizontal-pane
sashes. End entrances: 5 roll-edged steps to recessed 4-panel,
part-glazed doors with sidelights and overlights. basement has
C20 doors and 3/3 sashes where original. Attics to mansard
have 3/3 sashes where original.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: ramped and coped wall to left surmounted
by arrowhead railings. Ornate balustrades to sides of steps.
Remains of area railings at right have scroll motif.
A substantially complete facade, part of a good group of
villas.
