Description

Dated 1837. Wm Playfair. Scots Baronial. L-plan. 2 storeys and attics. Ashlar; gabled slate roofs. Crowsteps; crenellated tower and corner turrets with conical roofs; gargoyles. Moulded doorway at SW end

approached by balustraded stair; flamboyant cartouche with monogram BM/AG; above, a square panel with date "1837" flanked by carvings of galleon and boar's head. Bay-window in NE elevation. 1 storey and attic wing with pedimented dormers.

Statement of Interest

Built for John Campbell of Stonefield. Archibald Campbell of Stonefield (Muckairn) had acquired Barnmore Estate from Archibald McAllister of Tarback in 1746. Barmore Estate was renamed Stonefield after the

Muckairn lands of that name.
