Description

Circa 1877 in style of Robert Turnbull (of Thomson and
Turnbull) who continued to produce "Thomsonesque"
designs after Thomson's death in 1875. 2-storey terrace,
stepped to slope, with outer gables, 1st floor windows
with pilasters rising out of window jambs and anthemia
set in recesses between. Snecked and squared rubble with
polished dressings; stone-cleaned; pilastered doorcases,
unmargined windows (plate glass sashes), deep bracketted
eaves, chimney cans to Thomson design, slate roofs.
Modern forestair (to no. 40A) on S flank at sub-divided
house.
