Description

Loch Lomond And Trossachs National Park Planning Authority

The walled garden at Ardvorlich is an excellent example of a walled garden of this relatively unusual lozenge or extended octagon shape. Of relative rarity as well as its position in the overall development of the estate at Ardvorlich.

The walled garden, probably dating to the early 19th century is an elongated octagon in plan, with longer sides on the N and S. The walls, approximately 2m high, are of rubble with flat copes. Along the N wall is a short range of timber and brick greenhouses of the early 20th century. Access is through single boarded doors to the S and W and a boarded gate to the N. Stone sundial on a later stepped concrete pedestal, with a circular shaft and square table.
