Description

STOKENHAM STOKENHAM
SX8042 Corner Cottage and
14/225 Southern Cross

GV II

Pair of attached cottages. C18 or earlier, remodelled and probably extended
in Cl9. Plastered stone rubble and cob. Thatched roof with gabled ends.
Axial stack with later short shaft behind ridge.
Plan and Development: Pair of cottages, each probably of 2 room plan with
central entrances. Southern Cross on the right and the right hand room of
corner Cottage might have been the original house which would have been
divided into 2 cottages and extended by one room (the left hand room of
Corner Cottage) in the Cl9.
Exterior. 2 storeys. Asymmetrical. 1:4 window range, the bay to the left
is a later extension with higher eaves. Cl9 2 and 3-light casements with
glazing bars, the 3 on first floor with small panes might be early Cl9
casements. Doorway to right of centre (Southern Cross) with Cl9 panelled
door and C20 open porch over doorway and window immediately to right.
Doorway at left of front (Corner Cottage) has Cl9 panelled door and C20
porch with lean-to shingle roof; the window immediately to its right has a
woodmould. Rear elevation not inspected.
Interior: Not accessible.
