Pair of cottages, probably originally one house. Late C17 or C18, extended
and divided into 2 cottages probably in C19 and restored in C20.
Colourwashed stone rubble and cob under the eaves. Thatched roof with half
hipped right end and gabled left hand end abutting hipped tile roof
extension. The front wing has gable-ended tile roof. Large stone rubble
stack with slate weathering at left hand gable end of original house and
lateral stack at rear of right hand end with tall rendered shaft with turned
clay pots.
Plan: Probably originally a 2-room and cross-passage plan, the lower left
(east) end room heated from a gable end stack and the right hand room has a
lateral stack at the rear. It was probably in the C19 that the house was
converted into 2 cottages and a wing added to the front (north) of the right
hand end. The extension at the left (east) end is probably later and was
originally open on the ground floor. The outshut (porch) on the front of
this extension is a later C20 addition.
Exterior: Asymmetrical north front. Blocked doorway and windows at the
centre of the main range; projecting gable-ended wing to right with C20 2-
light casements with glazing bars and with late C19 glazed door on left hand
inner side with 3-light casement above. To left of front a C20 outshut in
front of extension with C20 plank door and casement. The left hand (east)
end appears to have been open on the ground floor but is now filled in and
has C20 casement on both floors. Asymmetrical 4-window rear (south)
elevation, large C20 2-light casements with glazing bars and concrete
sills.
