Mud Bank Cottage

Cottage on creekside. Circa early C19. Stone rubble. Thatched roof with hipped and
gabled ends. One and half storeys. Two window range. C19 two-light casements with
chamfered frames. First floor in small gabled dormers through the eaves. Central
plank door. Flat stone arches to ground floor openings. Large stone chimney stack
at gable end, and another at rear. Single storey rear outshot and C20 lean-to at
south west end.
Originally built as a fishing-house and situated by a dam which was constructed, at
the head of a creek on the estuary of the River Yealm, to form a lake in the
landscaped park of Kitley House by G.S. Repton in Yealmpton parish qv.
