Description

SX 65 NW ERMINGTON WARREN LANE
1/47
23/4/52 Strashleigh Manor House

GV II

Farmhouse, the surviving part of a larger house. C16, partly demolished and much
altered in 1934. Stone, now roughcast, but laid in bands of slate and stone. Slate
hipped and gabled L-shaped on plan. Tall two storeys. Circa C18 east wing; five
bays, some blind, remainder C20 cross mullion/transom windows and C20 lean-to porch
at centre.
Truncated wing at rear (west) with two storey porch at side with four-centred arch
doorway with continuous roll moulding. Part of the house to the west reduced to one
storey, but retains granite chamfered cross mullion/transom window. Large granite
chimney stacks with moulded caps.
Interior: not inspected but is said to have been severely modernised and the late
C17 stairs with twisted balusters has been reconstructed.
Strashleigh was the seat of the Strashleighs from the early C13 until the last
member of the family died in 1583.
