SX5751 YEALMPTON BOWDEN HILL
2/6/77 Bowden including
adjoining cartshed to
Farmhouse, formerly a manor house and seat of a branch of the Coplestones for several
generations. Rebuilt in early C19 and little if anything survives from the earlier
house. Stone rubble with roughcast front. Slate roof with gabled ends. Double-depth
plan with two roof spans. Two storeys. Three bay front. Sash windows with glazing
bars. Central glazed door with later C19 gabled porch. Brick chimney stacks at
gable ends. North east gable end has large external stone chimney stack. Rear
elevation (east) has three-light casements with glazing bars and central flush panel
door. Wings to south with twin span hipped roof.
Interior is said to have some early C19 features including plaster cornice and
recesses with moulded surrounds.
Including adjoining farm building to south west. Circa early C19, cartshed with loft
above. Stone rubble. Slate roof with gabled ends. Segmental arch to cartshed.
External stone stairs to loft above. Situated at right angles to front of house,
and facing farmyard, with back to road. Reference Transactions of Devonshire
