Description

MALBOROUGH MALBOROUGH GREEN
SX 73 NW
8/61 Home Thatch

G. V. II

House. Circa late C17 probably extended in C18. Rendered rubble walls, possibly
incorporating some cob. Hipped thatch roof. Rendered axial stack, probably
rubble with a brick shaft.
Plan: apparently built in 2 stages, as left-hand part of house, consisting of 2
rooms, projects, but without an internal inspection it was difficult to establish
which part is the earlier. The right-hand part consists of one room. The axial
stack divides it from the rest of the house and appears to heat 2 rooms. C19 or
early C20 rear leanto additions.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4 window front of which the left-hand side
projects. Mid C20 2-light metal-frame casements. C20 porch at centre is not now
used as such. The entrance is now via a thatched porch on the left-hand end wall
and has a C20 plank door.
Interior: inaccessible at time of survey but may contain features such as
original ceiling beams and fireplaces,
