MALBOROUGH
SHUTE HILL,
Seafarers Cottage and Shute House

(Formerly listed as: Shute Hill Cottage and Shute House)

G.V.

II

Pair of houses. Circa early C18. Rendered rubble walls probably incorporating
some cob. Hipped thatch roof. Three rendered brick stacks, one axial and one at each
end.
Plan: originally four cottages, Shute Hill Cottage to the left has entrance straight
into main room with only a narrow service room behind. Shute House actually
consists of a double fronted house to the right and a smaller self-contained
cottage to the left of similar size to Shute Hill Cottage. Later rear additions.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Regular 1 : 3 window front. Shute Hill Cottage to left has
late C20 large pane casements. To their right is a lean-to C20 porch with a part
glazed door. Adjoining this porch is a similar one to Shute House cottage and
there is another to Shute House to right of centre. It has C20 2-light casements
in small openings.
Interior: Rough insubstantial beams. Fireplaces rebuilt.
