Description

SOUTH HUISH GALMPTON
SX 64 SE
4/84 Primrose Cottage and adjoining
Cottage

II

Pair of cottages. Probably C17 in origin, extended or altered in C19 and C20.
Rendered rubble walls. Gable ended thatch roof. 3 brick stacks, one axial, the 2
at the gable ends are on projecting rendered rubble bases.
Plan: original plan not entirely clear as an internal inspection was not
possible. It may have been built as a 3-room-and-through-passage house with the
lower end to the right and hall stack backing onto passage. Alternatively it
might only have had a 2-room plan originally, which had an extra room built on at
the right-hand end. This end room is now a separate cottage. C20 one storey
additions at either end.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3-window front of small-paned C20 2-light
casements. Leanto C20 thatched roof porch towards either end with stable type
door behind.
Interior: inaccessible at time of survey but believed to contain old fireplaces
although ceiling beams have been replaced.
