Row of 3 cottges, possibly formerly one house. Circa early - mid C17, subdivided
probably in C19 and again in later C20. Plastered rubble and cob walls. Gable
ended thatch roof. 3 rubble stacks with dripcourses, one axial and one at each
gable end.
Plan: currently 3 one-room plan cottages with rear outshuts but probably built as a 3-room-and-through-passage plan house with lower end to the left, hall heated by stack backing onto passage and with shallow window bay at the front. Divided into 2 cottages at higher end of hall in the C19; hall and lower end recently also subdivided. C19 rear outshuts built.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 1 : I : 1 window front. Thornton's to the
left has small-paned circa early C20 2-light casements and a C20 stable-type door
to the right. Porch Cottage at the centre has late C20 2-light casements without
glazing bars. The shallow hall bay at its right-hand end has been converted into
a porch with a stable-type door. Small original squint window in its left-hand
wall. Greenaway to the right has a C20 2-light casement without glazing bars on
the 1st floor and a small-paned one below. C20 part-glazed door to the left.
Interior: Porch Cottage only accessible and it did not exhibit any early
features, the other cottages however, may be more unaltered inside.
These cottages preserve a very traditional appearance externally.
