Description

SOUTH MILTON SOUTH MILTON VILLAGE
SX 64 SE
4/124 Old Thatch and Little Thatch
26.1.67
G.V. II

Pair of houses. Probably C17 but much altered in C20. Rendered stone rubble
walls. Gable ended thatch roof. 3 rubble stacks with dripcourses, 2 axial and
one at left gable end.
Plan: original plan unclear and has probably been extended at one end. Old
Thatch to the left has an apparently 3-room plan and Little Thatch consists of
1 room at the right-hand end and 1 in a rear wing which was probably formerly an
outbuilding.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4-window front with Old Thatch taking up
three-quarters of it to the left. C20 2, 3 and 4-light casements. Firemark below eaves of Little Thatch towards right-hand end. Both houses have C20 doors on their rear wall.
Interior: Old Thatch only accessible and exhibited few early features, more may
survive in Little Thatch.
