Small house. Probably C18, divided into 2 cottages in Cl9 and reunited into
one house again in C20. Local stone rubble, rendered right hand end wall.
Asbestos slate roof, gabled left had end and hipped right hand end. Stack at
left hand gable end and rear lateral stack, both with rendered shafts.
Plan: The original plan is uncertain. The existing arrangement is probably
the result of the C19 conversion into 2 cottages. The right hand cottage has
lateral stack at the back and the partitioning off of an unheated front room
is probably a Cl9 alteration. The left hand cottage had an entrance and stack
in the left hand gable end, it had 2 rooms, the central room containing a
staircase at the back. In the C20 the cottage were reunited into one house.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3-window range. C20 12-pane sashes,
except for the ground floor right which retains a circa early Cl9 12-pane
sash. The 2 ground floor left hand windows have cambered slate arches.
Doorway to right of centre with early C19 6-panel door and a C20 weatherboard
gabled porch. Doorway in the left hand gable end is blocked.
The outshut at higher ground level at the rear is built of stone rubble and
has a low-pitched corrugated iron roof.
Interior: All the internal joinery is C19. The left hand gable end fireplace
has a stone arch and is now blocked. The lateral fireplace at the back of the
right end has a simple C19 kitchen chimneypiece. The centre room has a Cl9
staircase at the back with stick balusters and chamfered square newels.
Roof: Elm roof trusses, the collars pegged and nailed to the faces of the
principals which are morticed at the apex.
