GV II

House and adjoining outbuilding at the rear. Probably C17 or earlier,
extended in circa late C17 or early C18 and remodelled in early C19.
Local shale rubble, roughcast at front and at left hand end. Asbestos
slate roof with red clay ridge tiles and gable ends. Projecting gable end
stack to the left and a rear lateral stack to right of centre; both are
rendered.
Plan: The interior was not inspected but the house appears to have a 3-
room and through passage plan; the lower end to the left which is heated
from a large gable end stack was probably the kitchen; the hall at the
centre has a rear lateral stack and the inner room to the right appears to
be unheated. Probably in the late C17 or C18 a wing with an integral
lofted outbuilding was built behind the through passage, and probably in
the early C19 and outshut was built in the angle behind the lower end. The
house was also remodelled in circa early C19 and the front was given sash
windows and a classical doorcase.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical but regular 4-window front. The first
floor has 4 C20 16-paned sashes. The ground floor has a C20 tripartite
sash to the left with glazing bars, a C20 20-pane sash to the right of
centre and a circa late C19 2-light casement with glazing bars to the
right. Over the right hand window a projecting slate dripcourse. The
doorway to the left of centre has an early, C19 doorcase with panelled
pilasters with fluted capitals land an entablature with patera at either
end of the frieze and an early C19 6-panel door, the top panels are glazed.
Rear elevation; An outshut at the rear of the lower end with a corrugated
asbestos sheet roof land C19 3-light horizontally sliding sash with glazing
bars. At the rear of the putative passage a wing with an integral lofted
outbuilding at the end with an elliptically arched doorway on the ground
floor and a flight of steps up to the loft door above.
Including the front garden area wall to the south; probably C19; a low
shale rubble wall with pitched shale copping and low gate-piers to the left
of centre opposite the front doorway of the house.
Interior: not inspected.
