Quay on River Dart on the Dartington Hall estate. Probably C18 or earlier. Limestone rubble with layer roughly dressed limestone quoins, the outerside facing the river is of larger rubble. Rectangular on plan, about 3 to 4 metres wide. The walls are slightly battered and grass is growing on the top of the quay. It is situated at an oblique angle to the river and farms a small harbour on the downstream side which is now filled with silt on which large trees are growing. The south side of the harbour on the basin has the remains of a stone rubble revetment. The first bridge at Totnes was built in about 1200 and the weir was first built in the late C16. Both are downstream of the quay at Dartington and would have affected navigation to the sea. But the river would have been built to make the upper reaches of the river navigable in which case a quay at Dartington would have been necessary. There is also the remains of another small jetty about 400 metres due west at NGR 798 636
