9.2.61 Mill Creek Cottage

House. Probably C18, or earlier, with early C19 and late C20 alterations.
Plastered stone rubble. Slate roof, hipped to right and gable-ended to the
left. Red clay tiles. Rendered stack at left hand end with slate
weathering.
Plan: Appears to have been a 2-room plan, possibly at one time a pair of
cottages, the right hand of which may have incorporated a shop. There is
a long wing at the rear of the right hand end which was possibly a range of
separate cottages but is now incorporated into the house.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Not quite symmetrical 3-window range. 3 small C19
4-pane sashes on the first floor. To the left on the ground floor an
early to mid C19 20-pane sash. To the right on the ground floor a wide
fixed-light window which may have originally been a small shop window with
a doorway to its right. To the left of centre a circa early C19 4-panel
door, the bottom panels flush, the top panels fielded, in a doorcase with
moulded pilasters.
The right hand end wall has a small C19 4-pane sash on the first floor and
a C20 fixed-light window below. The rear wing has a higher eaves level
and an axial and gable end stack.
Interior: The small left hand room has an early c19 reeded chimneypiece
and a fielded panel door. the interior may have earlier features of
interest including an early roof structure.
