Cottage. Probably C18. Painted stone rubble. Asbestos slate roof, hipped
at the left hand end and gabled at the right hand end abutting Holly House
(qv). Right hand gable end stack with rendered shaft and a stone rubble
projecting stack at the rear with set-offs.
Plan: 2-room and through passage plan. The right hand room heated from a
gable end stack and the slightly larger left hand room at the lower end is
heated from a rear lateral stack. A C20 winder staircase rises from the
back at the left hand room. In the C19 a small single storey outbuilding
was added to the rear of the left hand end.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3-window east front, left hand blind
the first floor window to the left is blocked. C20 2-light casements,
first floor with glazing bars, ground floor right has a timber lintel.
Central doorway with a C20 panelled door and C20 open-fronted gabled porch.
The left hand south end has C20 casements. At the rear a plank door at the
centre and a C19 l single storey outbuilding to the right. Including wall
in front enclosing a small front garden. Probably C18 and C19. Local
limestone and slate rubble with slate capping. It is a retaining wall,
high at the left hand end where the road in front slopes steeply down to
the River Dart and low at the right hand end where there is a gateway and
conduit head in a brick surround.
Interior: -Some of the C19 joinery survives including plank doors. The
right hand gable end fireplace has been blocked and in the left hand room
the lintel of the rear lateral fireplace has been replaced. The roof has
late C19 or early C20 pegged soft-wood trusses.
