Description

DITTISHAM
RIVERSIDE ROAD
SX8655
16/315 Lychgate SW of Church
of St George

GV II

Lychgate: Late C19, made from reused roof members of the church probably
when it was restored in 1881.
The timber-frame structure has 3 posts with arch braced tie-beams
supporting a slate roof with slate hung gable ends. Three of the braces
have cyma-mouldings and are probably from the nave or chancel roofs; one
of the braces is missing. The 3 posts have brackets at their bases and
have 2 gateways between with pivoting timber panel gates; the east gateway
is wider.
