GV II

House formerly a farmhouse. Circa C18 with circa mid C19 extension. Slate
rubble, partly slate hung. Grouted scantle slate hipped roof with early
crested ridge tiles. Stone rubble chimney stacks with brick shafts.
Plan: 3 room plan, the lower end to the left, two higher right end rooms
heated by rear lateral stacks, the lower left end unheated room and an
outbuilding (stables) and loft at extreme left end. In front of higher end a
parallel range of 2 room plan added in mid C19 with a symmetrical facade and
gable end stacks.
Exterior: 2 storeys. The C18 range has back (north) to road with 2 tall
red brick chimney shafts rising from rear wall. The south front has slate
hung first floor, 2-window range of 2-light C19 casements. To left on lower
end a stable with lower level half-hipped roof, plank door to right, external
stone stairs to loft door and row of pigeon holes below eaves with slate
ledges. The loft stairs have opening below, probably a dog kennel.
Facing north, in the angle with mid C19 extension to right, is a porch with
slate hunt stair tower above and with lean-to outbuilding in angle at gable
end (of C19 addition).
The mid C19 addition to right has large gable end stacks with set-offs and is
2 storeys with 3-window slate-hung front with C19 16-pane sashes and small
central first floor fixed window of 6 panes.
The higher east ends of both ranges are stuccoed and treated as the entrance
front. The right hand 2 windows are C19 16-pane sashes, ground floor C19
tripartite sash and panelled door with overlight. Left hand projecting end
of 19 addition, its return wall having ground floor C19 sash and blind window
above.
Interior: Is largely unaltered since C19 with much of the C19 joinery intact,
including stairs with stick balusters and turned newels, shutters and doors
etc.
