Terrace of 4 cottages. Circa late C18 or early C19. Colour-washed slate
rubble. Asbestos tile roof with gabled ends and catslide at rear. Slate
rubble gable end stacks, left hand rendered, right hand truncated and
central axial stack with later brick shaft.
Plan: Terrace of 4 cottages. Nos 1 and 2 have mirror change plans of
each other, and similarly Nos 3 and 4. Each cottage has principal
heated room at the front containing stairs at the back and with smaller
unheated service rooms at the back. the centre cottages have back-to-back
fireplaces in the central stack and the end cottages are heated from
gable end stacks. Each has opposing front and rear doorways alternately
to left and right.
Exterior: Two storeys. Symmetrical 4-window front. C19 2-light casements
with glazing bars, ground floor with slate cambered arches, first floor
with timber lintels, all with slate sills. Paired doorways with cambered
slate arches, boarded doors and asbestos tiled hoods on old brackets. The
rear is also largely unaltered and the catslide roof reaches lower eaves
than at front; casement windows and boarded doors. Small rendered C20
flat roof extensions at rear.
Interior: Only No 4's interior was inspected. Its front doorway gives
direct access into the front room which has a staircase at the back.
