Description

ST 80 NE CHILD OKEPORD HIGH STREET (West side)

6/182 The Old House

II

House, probably C15 orgin with additions and alterations at many later dates.
Coursed rubble, clunch, banded brick and flint, timber framing and Flemish
bond brickwork, partially rendered. Thatched roof with brick stacks part way
along the ridge. 2 storeys, irregular fenestration. Ground floor has 2
3-light casements with leaded-lights. Above are 4 4-light casements with
Leaded-lights, that to the left probably being of the early C18 and retaining
its original glass. Small chamfered stone loop above the doorway. The
doorway is towards the left of the range, is blocked, and retains a heavy
chamfered timber surround. Further blocked entrance right. C20 door in
left gable wall.

Not inspected internally but said to contain a number of early features
including the original roof structure. (RCHM, Dorset vol. III, p81 , no 13)
