6/96 Manor Farm Barn (formerly
listed as Barn at Manor,
14-7-55 S of House.
Barn, later C16 incorporating reused C15 roof. Banded flint and rubble with
ashlar dressings. C19 chequered tile roof. Continuous chamfered plinth. Opposed
transeptal porches. Bays are defined by 2-stage buttresses with weathered offsets.
Chamfered rectangular ventilation loops. Internally there is an 8-bay hammer-beam
roof of very high quality said to have come from a former monastic building at
Milton Abbey. The members of each truss are heavily moulded. The hammer-beams
are supported on moulded wall-standards and curved and moulded braces springing
from stone corbels. The collar-beams are braced by moulded, curved braces springing
from the hammer-beams which form 2-centred arches. The purlins have secondary
wind-bracing. The walls are partially clunch lined. (RCHM, Dorset, vol.III,
