2/25 The Village Hall

GV II

Former malthouse of Messrs Hall's brewery, now used as village hall. Built
1777 by Charles Hall, reputedly with material from Higher Melcombe, Melcombe
Horsey. (RCHM). Converted to village hall c1948. Walls of flint and stone
banding, with chamfered plinth. Slate roof with coped gables. Single-storey.
In 2 sections. Left section has 5 C20 casement windows with lead lights in
stone surrounds with projecting keystones. In right section - centre section
of roof raised. Gabled porch approached by stone steps. Round-arched doorway
in stone surround; panelled door with fanlight. Left of porch one window as in
left section. Right of porch 2 similar windows and one altered to form doorway.
Rear wing has stone walls, raised in brick, and slate roof. Signs of demolished
building at right end. Left gable wall has, at high level, circular window in
stone surround. Below this two 2-light stone mullioned windows with lead lights.
