GV II

Manor house, late C18, for the Chapman family. Colourwashed render and ashlar.
Slate roof of 2 parallel ranges with end rendered stacks. Symmetrical. 3 storeys,
5 bays to the north and 7 to the south. Sashes with glazing bars. Outer ground
floor bays have Palladian windows with Tuscan columns. Central flat porch with
Ionic columns.

Internal features (RCHM): principal rooms have dadoes and fireplaces in the
Adam style; a marble chimney piece is said to be by Flaxman. The house was
once occupied by Josiah Wedgwood II. (RCHM, Dorset, vol.IV, p.93/4, no.3.
